Living life while laying on your La-Z-Boy..

When I first saw the trailer of Surrogates, it got me excited. I found the movie to be exciting, specially that scene where all the surrogates suddenly fell on the ground. It is apparently based from a comic book with the same title. It looked interesting. I watched it and I was wrong.
The movie didn't really have much appeal to it. It didn't bore me but it didn't stir my interest either. It's one of those movies that you watch just to pass time.

Synopsis.

The movie is about a time when humans would stop functioning as themselves in society but instead they will be replaced by surrogates. Surrogates came about when some time in the future, a technology was developed which allowed humans to control robots just by their brains. This technology brought hope to those who doesn't have a complete set of body parts. The technology evolved until at one point, humans didn't see anymore need for them to go out of their homes to live their lives. They just need to buy themselves some surrogates and control it from their homes. Nice one.

The inventor of the surrogate is Dr. Lionel Canter (James Cromwell). He worked together with a partner, whose name I forgot, to start the VSI company. The company manufactured surrogates which, according to them, has various advantages. You'll be safer and you can choose who you want to be among others. If, say, your surrogate gets involved in a car crash, it is only the surrogate that 'dies' and not you. It just a robot that you control from your home, so no harm is done to you with that accident or is there? Dr. Carter has a son, and the movie started off with him being killed. Well, his surrogate was shot dead and this also led to his real body's death. This caused an alarm since this is the first time that the controller of the surrogate also died along with the death of his surrogate. Agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) was brought in from the FBI to investigate on this case. Throughout his investigation of the case he met the anti-surrogates, two-faced surrogates (surrogate technology can't take that out of humans I suppose) and lost his surrogate plus some car chasing and all those stuff.

Review.

The movie would have been good if only they added more depth into it. They didn't really focus much on building the story. They just presented the concept behind the surrogate but that's just about it. The storyline about the death of the surrogate founder's son is not really that much of a mystery. The story line's a bit predictable which made it really boring.

There's not much surprises here. The story of surrogate actually reminded me a bit of GI JOE at one point, minus the love story. The movie leaves you asking questions more than it makes you think about how the future for mankind will be. The acting of the cast is quite ok. Bruce Willis did a good joob in his scenes with his wife, but other than that, there's not much acting that he needs to do. He just needed to do a lot of running. This is an action film anyway, so didn't really expect any noteworthy acting and add to that the lack of depth in the story.

I actually managed to sleep for 15 mins while watching this,
a first for me..:D.
To be fair though, I was having a headache at that time.
But I like some of the things it raised.

Humans are mostly insecure. They always want something changed about themselves and are not contented with their lives. It showed with their choices of their surrogates. Fat people have slim surrogates while some gay guys have a sexy chick as their surrogates. Humans here were portrayed as dysfunctional, flawed and whacked as their normal selves but as their surrogates, they live a happy and perfect life.

As for some of the questions you might ask yourself once you leave the cinema:
How do those lazy ass surrogate owners get a fit body when all they do is lay down on their La-Z-Boy all day????
Does being smart always require you to be fat, not take a bath and wear reading glasses??
Will it really be possible to have our own surrogates in the future???
If so, how much is it?? Do I need to start saving up for it now???

As for me, Will my being lazy help me be a better surrogate user?
Will it also help that I always lay on my bed most of the day in operating my surrogate machine ?

Btw, they've got a nifty site.
Now, you can go and create your own SURROGATE.
They don't sell any yet though...

Kanye West to the Rescue!

I know it's a wee bit too late for this but I can't help but share this picture.

I just happen to come across this picture and it is quite funny...

I guess we can now always rely on Kanye West to give us comfort for all those stuff that we failed to win....:D

Ready. Set. Go?

I hate the weather that this country is having lately.
It's raining. Always raining.
I can't play Tennis anymore. Well, my procrastination is partly to be blamed but still the rain is a factor. Hehe. By the way, just to give a small update on what's happening on the Tennis scene, Venus Williams won the WTA Championship in Qatar. Her first Championship title.
She defeated the former cry baby Vera Zvonareva in the finals.

Moving over to Master's Cup...

Men's Singles Qualifiers

Where is Roddick?

Men's Doubles Qualifiers

The Bryan brothers seemed to take the photo shoot a bit seriously.

The pictures look a bit boring but really good at the same time.
I like the warrior statues they had last year. I don't see any 'Shanghai' in here.

The Master's Cup is underway in Shanghai. FedEx just lost to Gilles Simon in the first round. Damn. Rafael Nadal pulled-out by the way. This would have been a very open draw for Federer, but he gets this. A loss to a last minute entry to the Master's Cup. Chances are Fed won't win the tourney, not even reach the semifinals. He's just too 'un-Federer' like this year, except perhaps in the USO. My pick for this tournament is Andy Murray. Hope he does well here.

Anway....

I am beginning to feel that December is fast approaching. But I can't feel Christmas. Why is that?
My current project will go-live in February. There's no time to waste for all those holidays. We will have work on Holiday. Yipee... Yipee for knowing now why I don't feel Christmas coming. I would at least be productive on those days. Not really sure on the eve of New Year, I love my body too much to come to work on that day. I better start to buy gifts as early as now. Since as far as I remember, I have been doing my Christmas shopping every 24th of December since 1999. I have also been buying all those stupid things for a present for too long know. I plan to think of what I really want to give. Gifts that would be a bit age-appropriate to the receiver. hehe.

I have been looking at the items in the mall and I basically see the same things. Maybe it's time for me to go and visit some Christmas Bazaars. Now, what to buy......Uhm, I suppose that as long as it's not a mug or a picture frame then that will be ok. haha.
I really wish to do better this Christmas.

Underneath it all...

On my way to work, while inside the MRT, I saw something familiar peeking out of a girl's pits.
She has her hand on the rail and there it is. In front of me. It's beige. It's a Band-Aid. hehe. Cool.

I suppose that she got the cut from shaving her armpits. Anyhow, I am still yet to figure out why I am blogging about this. I just find it funny. It's ok to do that of course, but would have been better if she didn't wear short sleeves.

Armpits. Band-Aid.

I was once told by my uncle that in China, only prostitutes and celebrities shave their pits. Weird.
Does it follow then that celebrities are just high class prostitutes? hehe.
Armpit shaving is actually pretty foreign to some countries. I read somewhere that europeans don't shave their pits. I saw it too by the way.
Where could have I seen it? LRT. hehe.
But then again, I see Andrea Corr flapping her arms and showing her pits to the world in their concert and it's hairless. Nice.

Do you know that Axilla is the scientific term for armpits? If you do, good for you. Why? I don't know what else to say, that's why. I can feel my Axilla dripping with sweat as I write this.

Band-Aid was invented by Earle Dickson. He supposedly thought of this so she could help his clumsy wife. She always cuts her finger, thus a need arose for a quick remedy to her cuts. Earle thought of Band-Aid. Pretty nice.

I remember that episode in The Simpsons where Homer suddenly had the interest to follow in Thomas Edison's footsteps and even wanted to outdo him in terms of the number of his inventions. QB Stove just suddenly popped in my head. Another invention. A grill invented by a pinoy. You can watch it on ABC-5' s Venta5. haha.

I don't exactly see any coherence in what I have been writing.
Please bear with me.
To my English Teacher in HS, Yes, you're correct. That 'Lacks coherence ' in red ink you wrote on one of my compositions still holds true. hehe.

The Band-Aid(s) of today have become fancy. Transparent, Striped etc.
There's even a blinged-up Band-Aid now. Yahoo! Maybe that girl should use this next time.

Turning Japanese...

For some reason, I happen to suddenly remember this song.
I'm just wondering what this is suppose to tell me.
Does this mean that I'm going to Japan anytime soon? haha..
Anyhow, I love this era. The 90's. This song was so popular back then in the Philippines.
I just have a funny feeling that I'll digress some more in the coming days...

Sweet Soul Revue by Pizzicato Five..

Changing of Guard

It has been days since a new Wimbledon Champion was crowned.
I am not at all shocked by the result. I am just plain disappointed.

Rafael Nadal, Men's Wimbledon Champion 2008.

After fighting for 5 long sets, Roger Federer succumbed his crown to 'Rafa' after netting a forehand. Damn. It must have been a very tough year for him.

He has only won some minor tournaments this year. I'm not used to it.

He lost in the Australian Open semifinal and French Open final. I thought that his loss at the French Open would be the most depressing thing. He was bagelled in that match.

But come Wimbledon, I proved myself wrong. The most depressing loss is yet to come.

Roger Federer probably agrees. He said in an interview that losing this year's Wimbledon is “Probably my hardest loss, by far” .

When Roger lost the 1st set 4-6, I told myself to sleep. I tried to do it but I couldn't. I got up from bed and turned on the TV. Rafa's now leading, 6-4, 6-4. Poof. I know that this is it.

A new champion will be crowned. Federer's backhand is just too vulnerable. Rafa just needs to serve on that side and he gets the point. When he's in danger in a rally, he just gives it to the backhand and he'll win the point.

As shitty as Federer's backhand was, He was still able to push Rafa to 5 sets.
This should make me feel happy. Somehow.
